President Trump: We can not let the cure be worse than the problem itself. We’re not going to let the cure be worse than the problem.
Of course, they didn't include the very next sentence.
President Trump: At the end of the 15 day period we’ll make a decision as to which way we want to go, where we want to go, the timing, and essentially we’re referring to the timing of the opening, essentially the opening of our country, because we have it pretty well shut down in order to get rid of this invisible enemy.
Mr. King then proceeds to argue that President Trump is continually trying to reopen the country.
The President's push to reopen the country ASAP puts him at odds with his own public health professionals. And, at the moment anyway, with the coast to coast facts.
Which he is, that makes sense. Of course, Mr. King being on the China News Network somehow missed that President Trump had been mulling a quarantine of New York. He also missed that President Trump had extended the social distancing guidelines to April 30th (CNN). Now, I'm going to him the benefit of the doubt and assume that Mr. King's piece came out before that extension. Of course, it was 6 days after President Trump said to reevaluate in 15 days.
However, the worst and most egregious part of this segment? He never answered the question! Are efforts to flatten the curve working? I honestly want to know. I always follow Betteridge's law of headlines which states (via Wikipedia):
This story is a great demonstration of my maxim that any headline which ends in a question mark can be answered by the word "no." The reason why journalists use that style of headline is that they know the story is probably bullshit, and don’t actually have the sources and facts to back it up, but still want to run it.
We can conclude CNN doesn't have any evidence to suggest that social distancing is working. Take that for what you will.
